Literally. I was at a nice lunch with some friends, the sky was blue, the sun was shining, it was the kids last day of school. When we left the restaurant it wasn't raining at all. By the time we were a half mile away from home, we hit the rainstorm like a wall. As I pulled into the driveway, Travis was running around the house with buckets and I knew we were in trouble. Laura and I jumped out and within seconds we were soaking wet, bailing water out of the stairway to our basement entrance. Laura ran inside to stop the water from pouring in through the door. Lots of blankets and towels later it didn't even get the carpet wet. (HUGE blessing) Sean and Katie stopped as they were driving past and jumped out to help, as well as lots of other neighbors and friends. The window well started filling up as well so we were bailing water out of it, too. Unfortunately there was nowhere for the water to go and things were filling up faster then we could clean them out. Katie had called 911 to see where we could get sandbags and they came in the engine to help out. We got the sandbags from the firestation, dug trenches, bailed water, got completely soaked and covered in sand. (FYI- Soaking wet sandbags are VERY heavy.) Just as we were getting everything under control, other neighbors began noticing water coming in their basements. In all we ran up and down the street with sandbags, towels, shopvacs, and shovels to about 6 houses. Thanks to all who helped! We couldn't have done it without you! It was great to see the neighborhood really band together in everyone's time of need.
This was what was left after the rain stopped and we had drained the yard. It never completely went away.
At one point you couldn't see the concrete or the flatrock, the water was more than ankle deep and it was raining so hard it was too hard to see through.

This is where it all began. The water was knee deep down on the landing and was pouring in through the door.
And this is what kept the carpet dry. Well that and Laura and Jerika holding towels against the cracks and willing the water to stay outside!

WOW!!!!!! Oh NOOOO! I'm glad everything is OK now! Glad you guys were home and didn't come home to a disaster!

I feel sad that so many of our friends got flooded. We will not have rain like that very often.Thankful Travis was home and that you got help fast.
